In the most recent edition of the “Views from Section 400” podcast (watch here) the guys collectively decided on what the “Views from 400” future would be for the CFP champion.

We chose Michael Penix Jr. and the Washington Huskies, and they almost failed us in their first game since.

The leader in the PAC 12 survived in the end, skating past Utah in a 35-28 thriller on Saturday.

Michael Penix Jr. was again electric for Washington, throwing for 332 yards and a trio of two touchdowns in the win. His top receiver, Rome Odunze, caught both of those touchdowns, finishing with 3 catches for 111 yards on the day.

Running back Dillon Johnson added 104 rushing yards, and the Washington offense breezed to their ninth game of 30 or more points this season.

We were never worried about Penix Jr. and the Huskies offense, but the defense did cause some concern this week. Utah is still without starting quarterback Cam Rising. His backup, Bryson Barnes, has been servicable in his stead but has not been special enough to take a talented roster to the upper-echelon of the PAC 12.

Barnes channeled his inner “Winter Soldier” tonight, completing 17 of his 30 passes for 267 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was also the Utes leading rusher in the game with 39 yards.

Washington allowed a backup quarterback to come into Seattle and nearly end their hopes of a conference championship and spot in the College Football Playoff.

They’ll need to fix the problems in the secondary if they hope to get past Bo Nix and an outstanding Oregon offense in the PAC 12 title game.

The good news for Washington? Besides Nix, the only other above-average quarterback on their would be schedule is Florida State’s Jordan Travis.
