Matt’s 2025 MLB Playoff Power Rankings

It’s Matt here with some MLB Playoff Power Rankings! I don’t write many articles often, so you’ll want to stick around for this one!

The 2025 MLB postseason is here, and the 12-team field is set to battle for the World Series title. From young upstarts to seasoned contenders, I’ve ranked all 12 playoff teams based on their regular season performance, recent form, key players, and postseason potential.

Starting from the bottom at No. 12 and working our way to the top spot at No. 1, here’s how the playoff contenders stack up, along with their chances of hoisting the Commissioner’s Trophy.

  1. 12. Cincinnati Reds (NL Wild Card, No. 6 NL Seed)

World Series Chances: Slim (5%).

The Reds’ young arms could steal a series, but their lack of playoff experience and a tough matchup against the Dodgers make a deep run unlikely.

  1. 11. Detroit Tigers (AL Wild Card, No. 6 AL Seed)

World Series Chances: Low (8%).

Skubal could carry them in a short series, but their collapse and matchup against the Guardians dims their hopes.

  1. 10. Boston Red Sox (AL Wild Card, No. 5 AL Seed

World Series Chances: Moderate (10%).

Boston’s bats could spark an upset, but their pitching inconsistencies make a long postseason run a tough sell.

  1. 09. Cleveland Guardians (AL Central, No. 3 AL Seed)

World Series Chances: Moderate (12%).

Cleveland’s momentum is real, but their lack of pitching depth and star power limits their ceiling.

  1. 08. San Diego Padres (NL Wild Card, No. 5 NL Seed)

World Series Chances: Fair (15%).

The Padres’ bullpen could dominate, but their starting pitching needs to step up to make a serious run.

  1. 07. Chicago Cubs (NL Wild Card, No. 4 NL Seed)

World Series Chances: Fair (18%).

The Cubs have the talent to surprise, but they’ll need their young core to overperform to go deep.

  1. 06. New York Yankees (AL Wild Card, No. 4 AL Seed)

World Series Chances: Good (20%).

The Yankees’ star power gives them a shot, but inconsistency and pitching depth issues could end their run early.

  1. 05. Los Angeles Dodgers (NL West, No. 3 NL Seed)

World Series Chances: Strong (25%).

The Dodgers’ talent and postseason know-how make them a threat, but they’re not the dominant force of last year.

  1. 04. Seattle Mariners (AL West, No. 2 AL Seed)

World Series Chances: Strong (28%).

With a bye and momentum, Seattle could finally reach the World Series, but their rotation needs to hold up.

  1. 03. Toronto Blue Jays (AL East, No. 1 AL Seed)

World Series Chances: Very Strong (30%).

Toronto’s offense can carry them far, but their bullpen must stabilize to win it all.

  1. 02. Philadelphia Phillies (NL East, No. 2 NL Seed)

World Series Chances: Excellent (35%).

With a bye and a balanced roster, Philly is a favorite, but Wheeler’s injury could hurt in later rounds.

  1. 01. Milwaukee Brewers (NL Central, No. 1 NL Seed)

World Series Chances: Best (40%).

With a bye, home-field advantage, and a stacked roster, Milwaukee is the clear favorite to win it all.

The 2025 postseason kicks off with the Wild Card Series on September 30, 2025 with the  Guardians vs. Tigers, Yankees vs. Red Sox, Dodgers vs. Reds, and Cubs vs. Padres.

The Brewers, Phillies, Blue Jays, and Mariners await in the ALDS and NLDS, enjoying their first-round byes.

While the Brewers and Phillies look like the teams to beat, October’s chaos means anyone from the Reds’ young guns to the Mariners’ hot streak could crash the party…. Go Phillies!!
