Recapping a crazy Tuesday in the SEC

No. 1 Auburn dominates in the Jungle against No. 15 Mississippi State

With Chaney Johnson and Chad Baker-Mazara leading the way, the Tigers breezed past Mississippi State without star player Johni Broome. Chaney Johnson, who replaced Broome, stepped up in a big way with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks. The senior forward showed that he can be a viable replacement for Auburn while Broome is out. Freshman Tahaad Pettiford continued to shine for the Tigers with a solid game, adding 12 points and 3 assists. Auburn’s leading scorer in the game, Chad Baker-Mazara, had a massive night, stuffing the stat-sheet with 20 points, 2 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 assist. The senior’s complete, impact, performance was key for Auburn in the win. The Tigers, who never trailed in the game, dominated the Bulldogs at home. Bruce Pearl’s team is now (4-0) in SEC play while the Bulldogs fell to (2-2) in conference play.

No. 4 Alabama outplayed and overwhelmed by No. 21 Ole Miss

The star of the game for the Rebels was junior forward Malik Dia, who dominated my Tide on the offensive and defensive side of the ball with 23 points, 19 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Ole Miss guard Sean Pedulla was also a key player in the game, hitting a crucial 3-ball down the stretch to put the game on ice. He finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. While the explosive offense of the Crimson Tide looked confused and lost with 21 turnovers in the game, it was on brand for a team that has struggled taking care of the ball all season. The turnover problem that the Tide have developed is something that needs to be fixed if they are to live up to expectations in March. The lone star for the Tide was guard Aden Holloway with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, Holloway was the only player who seemed to show up for the Tide. The Rebels dominated in the second half after trailing going into the locker room to beat Alabama and move to 4-0 in conference play. Alabama fell to 3-1 in SEC play.

Missouri shocks #5 Florida in the Swamp

Missouri dominated in the first half, leading by 16 at the end of the opening frame. For ‘Mizzou’, the star of the show was senior guard Caleb Grill who dominated from beyond the arc, shooting 6 of 10 from 3-point range on his way to 22 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. After being dominated in the first half, Florida stormed back into the game, bringing it as close as a single possession down to the wire. Most of that can be chalked up to the play of senior guard Walter Clayton Jr. who had 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Down the stretch Caleb Grill drilled a 3-point shot to give Missouri a 7-point lead, creating what may have been the most controversial moment of the game. Many Florida fans claimed that Grill’s foot was on the line and should have only been 2-point shot, but the officials never took the time to review the call on the floor. Missouri would hang on in the swamp to not only move to (3-1) in SEC play, but pick up their second top 5 win of the season as well, which is going to be pivotal in their push to get a March Madness bid. Florida dropped to (2-2) in conference play with the loss.
