The day is March 17th, 2023.
Xavier has just beaten the 14-seed Kennesaw State Owls in March Madness in a heartbreaking game.
Led by coach Amir Abdur Rahim, stud guard Chris Youngblood, junior guard Kasen Jennings, and A-SUN Defensive Player of the Year Brandon Stroud, the leaders of the heartbroken Owls were on to a bigger and better conference, the AAC’s South Florida Bulls.
They were joining forces with absolute studs Selton Miguel, Kasean Pryor, Jayden Reed, Kobe Knox, and more.
Now, the betting odds and the preseason media “experts” had no respect for the former ASUN Conference Coach of the Year Amir Abdur Rahim, and his team. The Bulls were picked to be 9th in the conference and had absolutely no respect on their names.
What happened? They just became the AAC Regular season champions with room to spare!!
Now, this wasn’t easy. South Florida started this season 2-4 with horrible losses to Central Michigan and Maine in which they were favored by 17.5 and 8.5, respectively. Their fourth loss of the year was to UMass.
Sitting at 2-4 on the season, they had to face FSU. Even though the Bulls were at home they were 7.5 point underdogs. What happened? A dominant showing by the Bulls who won 88-72. Coach Amir Abdur Rahim’s team found its swagger and started to go crazy. Ever since that 2-4 start, USF is 21-1 and currently on a 15-game winning streak.
They beat teams like No. 10 ranked Memphis (at the time) in FedEx Forum. They were trailing by 15 at half and were able to comeback and win in regulation. That has been South Florida all year. The Bulls have been down 10+ points in many games during this 21-1 streak but have still found ways to win.
They have been, and continue to be, disrespected from Vegas, recently being tabbed underdogs against Charlotte, SMU, FAU, and North Texas (lol).
As someone who has watched them all season, I don’t know what’s going to happen with this team, but I will say that this team has shooters, heart, and the leader to make a huge run in not only the AAC tournament but the March Madness tournament. I certainly wouldn’t bet against this team.
