The Stefon Diggs era in Buffalo will always be tainted by the “What if?”
What if the Bills got to touch the ball in overtime of the 2020 AFC Championship? What if Tyler Bass didn’t miss a field goal wide right in the 2023 AFC Divisional Round? What if Patrick Mahomes did not exist?
Unfortunately for Bills fans, the Marty McFly-driven DeLorean isn’t screeching its tires along the snow-ridden streets of Orchard Park any time soon. We live in the real world, and that simple sentiment hit the Buffalo faithful in the stomach today harder than a Wing Flight from “WingNutz”.
The 30-year-old Diggs is one of the most polarizing and productive pass catchers in all of football. He made his presence felt in the Empire State throughout his time with quarterback Josh Allen and head coach Doug McDermott. Nonetheless, his legacy will end in Buffalo as being the guy who helped his young quarterback “take the next step.”
Despite a much more talented roster than the ones during his Vikings tenure, Diggs still has yet to make it to the Super Bowl. That could change soon, although he’ll still have to beat out Patrick Mahomes.
Diggs will play South of the Mason Dixon line for the first time in his life when he joins the Houston Texans in camp in a few months. The Maryland Native played his college ball at the University of Maryland before the Minnesota Vikings drafted him in the fifth-round of the 2015 NFL Draft. From there, the undersized wide receiver would pave a path to instant stardom, culminating in one of the greatest plays in NFL history.

Diggs would trade chilly Minneapolis for chillier Buffalo shortly after the “Minneapolis Miracle”, where he would once again fall short of the Super Bowl by one game in 2020.
Now, the 30-year-old gets a fresh start in Houston with second year quarterback C.J Stroud. He’ll be coached by 2023 Coach of the Year finalist DeMeco Ryans. Most importantly, Diggs will have an abundance of talented and young pass catchers behind him on the depth chart to open up the field.
With Diggs joining Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Dalton Shultz, and plenty of other weapons in the Lone Star State, C.J Stroud has everything he needs to turn in another MVP-caliber season. Add in the fact Joe Mixon will line up in the backfield for Houston this season, and the Texans may be the new favorite to unseat the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs in the AFC.
Before trading away a second-round pick for the uber-talented wide out, Houston was 25-to-1 to win the Super Bowl. Now, they are 15-to-1. The Bills, who were 12-1, have dropped to 14-1.
Maybe the Texans are what Kansas City’s Rashee Rice was driving away from…
