After 162 long games, the Major League Baseball playoffs are finally upon us.
There is truly nothing like October baseball, and I am beyond excited to consume all the fun and give you my takes throughout the postseason.
With the Wild Card round wrapping up and the real postseason beginning this weekend, here are my official power rankings going into the Division Series.
- Houston Astros
-
Getty Images Yes, I put the Astros number one. They’re the defending champs and have all the core guys still together. Not only is their pitching very good, but the lineup is elite as well, especially with Michael Brantley back in the fold.
The Astros are looking at a strong chance of repeating.
- Atlanta Braves
-
Atlanta Braves/ X The Braves and Phillies are interchangeable here.
Atlanta dropped some games late in the season to the Fightins’, and we all know what happened last year in the playoffs.
Don’t let that distract you from this Braves team though. Ronald Acuña is finally fully healthy and probably the best player in baseball coming off the first 40/70 season ever. The Braves are scary.
- Philadelphia Phillies
-
AP Photo/Chris Szagola This team is built and primed for the World Series. Pitchers Zach Wheeler and Aaron Nola have been electric down the stretch and in the Wild Card series.
With a potent offense, it will be tough to stop this team, especially when they are at “The Bank”.
With the best home-field advantage in the entire playoffs, every team that has to travel to South Philly will be wishing the plane was going elsewhere.
Let’s go PHILS!
- Baltimore Orioles
-
Getty Images One of the biggest surprises of the 2023 season, the AL East champions could be dangerous.
Baltimore’s lack of starting pitching and major inexperience will probably be their downfall in the end, but it was a great season for them either way.
The Orioles will be a force for years to come.
- Los Angeles Dodgers
-
AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill This Dodgers team doesn’t scare me as much as they have in the past.
The lineup is solid, especially with players like Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts, but I think the rotation could face some problems.
Clayton Kershaw could create some momentum as the ace for the boys in LA though.
- Texas Rangers
-
USA TODAY Sports/Jay Biggerstaff Starting pitchers Jon Gray and Nathan Eovaldi will need to be workhorses all October long if the Rangers have any shot at going deep into the postseason.
The Rangers bullpen comes in with a 4.77 ERA which ranks near the bottom of the entire American League. I believe this will haunt them at some point.
- Minnesota Twins
-
Getty Images Carlos Correa is Mr. October and always shows up but can he carry a team that lacks superstar talent?
I don’t think so in a LOADED American League.
- Arizona Diamondbacks
-
Michael McLoone-USA TODAY Sports The D-Backs don’t boast much experience, and their lack of pitching depth in both the rotation and bullpen is worrisome. The bottom of the lineup also doesn’t scare me.
It was a nice season for Arizona, but they are not ready for the moment.
