What happened last night; November 30

The New York Mets signed Luis Severino and Joey Wendle to rental contracts last night. Time is a flat circle.

That’s all I’ll say about the Mets.

Every single weekday, the guys from Section 400 will be providing a rundown of everything that happened in sports the night before.

Let’s get into it.

Hogs, Tigers, and Tar Heels

The ACC/SEC Challenge officially lived up to the hype in its first year of existence. The conferences split the challenge 7/7, including a 2/2 split in the ESPN Blockbuster games.

After the Kentucky Wildcats took care of business and the Clemson Tigers upset Alabama on Tuesday, UNC took care of business and Arkansas upset Duke on Wednesday.

The biggest takeaway came from Fayetteville, where Eric Musselman’s team led the Duke Blue Devils end-to-end in a game they desperately needed a win.

The Hogs faithful stormed the court after the final whistle, once again bringing up the debate on if you should storm the court in a game you expect to win.

I’ll also shout out my Auburn Tigers for getting a fifth-straight dub. That really helped my night out after the Luis Severino news.

Neptune’s Crown

VU Hoops

In a sports landscape featuring stories like Corey Perry sleeping with Connor Bedard’s mom, Josh Giddey sleeping with minors, and a scene of a college football landscape, the Villanova Wildcats are somehow one of the weirdest stories in the nation.

The Wildcats lost an early game to Penn before going to Atlantis and beating UNC and Memphis, seemingly figuring it out.

Then they lost to an average St. Joes team at home on Wednesday Night.

Section 400 contributer Matt ranted early in the year about Kyle Neptune not being the guy to lead the Wildcats far into March, and his fears may be coming to fruition early.

The Dukes keep winning.

JMU Athletics

I’m taking the opportunity to highlight the James Madison Dukes on a slow sports night. This team has been on my radar since the first game of the season when I said they’d give Michigan State all it could handle.

They ended up beating the Spartans and the Dukes haven’t lost since.

All five starters for JMU are averaging double figures, leading the charge on an incredibly talented mid-major team.

Guard Terrance Edwards is good enough to carry the Dukes in march, as the junior is averaging 19/5/3 to open the season.

Pencil in JMU as a first-round upset when the Brackets come out in March.
