What happened last night; November 9

Welcome to this morning’s edition of “What happened last night.” We had a solid night of sports, but unfortunately, someone forgot to plug their laptop into the wall so he is working with a 1% computer with a laggy WordPress platform.

We’ll get through this one together.

I can’t quite tell you why your car is in the front yard, or why you slept with your clothes on, but don’t worry, I’m not gone.

Every single day, the guys from Section 400 will be providing a rundown of everything that happened in the world of sports the night before.

Party at Tegridy Farms! Colorado sports cannot lose right now.

The Denver Nuggets improved to 8-1 on Wednesday, squeaking past the Golden State Warriors 108-105 on a night they found out star guard Jamal Murray would miss the next month of the season with an injury.

The loss of Murray didn’t seem to bother Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic (I’m not sure anything ever bothers him), as the sensational Serbian superstar dropped a 35-piece on Golden State, adding 13 rebounds and 5 assists.

Steph Curry was the leading scorer on the other side of things. The four-time champ scored 23 in this one but must really wish he had 25 after this crucial missed bunny late in the game.

This game lived up to all the hype of being in the “best” category in yesterday’s “what to watch for tonight”. I would not be surprised at all if we get seven more of these come the Western Conference Finals in May.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs may be a scary sleeper this college basketball season. The Bulldogs are known for defense, and cowbells, but mostly for defense.

That smothering man-zone hybrid confused Bobby Hurley and the Arizona State Sun devils all night in the “Barstool Classic”. Frankie Collins and Co. were held to just 18 first half points and 56 points total.

The real takeaway from this game was the Mississippi State offense, which was absolutely horrendous a year ago. After finishing dead-last in all of Divison 1 in 3-point shots made last year, the Bulldogs went 10/26 from beyond the arc in their first game of 2023-2024.

Junior transfer Trey Fort led the way, knocking in 21 points on 5/10 from deep. I already know he is going to give me chest pains when the Bulldogs play Auburn.

The most entertaining thing about this whole game was an empty arena yelling at Arizona State guard Frankie Collins to shoot a three for his over 0.5 three-pointers made to cash in a blowout.

The FAU Owls took on the Loyola Chicago Ramblers in the only other college basketball game worth watching last night.

Florida Atlantic cruised to a victory in this one. Last year’s cinderella team is expected to make another run this season, and Section 400 writer Matt even believes they have what it takes to win it all.

Four of the five FAU starters scored at least 12 points, with the lone single digit scorer Bryan Greenlee (6) picking up a team-high 5 assists.

As for Loyola, Denzel Valentine’s squad looked okay in this one but never really had a chance. They should once again be in the middle of the A-10.
