What happened last night; October 26

I can’t quite tell you why your car is in the front yard, or why you slept with your clothes on, but don’t worry, I’m not gone.

Every single day, the guys from Section 400 will be providing a rundown of everything that happened in the world of sports the night before.

Luka magic steals the show

The talk around the first full night of NBA basketball was the debut of Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama. “Wemby” had a solid debut despite foul trouble, posting 15 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block.

Unfortunately for the Frenchmen and the Spurs, one of the best players in the world was on the other side of the floor. Serbian guard Luka Dončîć went nuclear on San Antonio, accumulating 33 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists in 34 minutes of action.

Tuesday marked the fourth time in six career opening night games that Luka went over the 30-point mark. It was time he posted a triple double in the opener.

Busy day in the NBA.

Brian Sevald/2021 NBAE

Plenty of other action took place across the Association on Wednesday.

Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porziņģis gave the world a preview of the Celtics offensive potential, as the pair combined for 64 of Boston’s 108 points in the Celtics 108-104 win over the New York Knicks.

A little further down I-95, the Miami Heat won a nail-biter over Cade Cunningham and the Detroit Pistons, 103-102.

The 22-year-old guard posted 30 points in his first game since early last season. He was the only Piston with over 17 points.

The young Oklahoma City Thunder, whom we are very high on here at Section 400, looked great in their blowout win over the Chicago Bulls.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander did his thing, posting 31 points, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds, while Josh Giddey, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, and the supporting staff all played efficient basketball.

The Sacramento Kings still looked great in a blowout win in Utah, Zion Williamson returned to action and scored the last 12 points for the Pelicans in a road win over the Grizzlies, and Jordan Poole and Kyle Kuzma shot a combined 1/10 from 3-point range in a Wizards blowout loss.

We are back baby. Check out our season preview here!

You gotta be kidding me.

Sam Houston State Athletics

For 3 quarters on Wednesday night, it looked like Sam Houston State would finally get off the snide and win their first football game of the season.

Then the fourth quarter happened.

Sam Houston was outscored by opponent UTEP 17-7 in the fourth quarter of their 37-34 loss at home last night. The Bearkats are now 0-8 and have just four more chances to get a win in 2023.
