What happened this weekend; November 6

What a weekend of football! I hope everybody was able to have a nice and relaxing fall weekend and isn’t too hungover at work this morning because…

I can’t quite tell you why your car is in the front yard, or why you slept with your clothes on, but don’t worry, I’m not gone.

Every single day, the guys from Section 400 will be providing a rundown of everything that happened in the world of sports the night before.

A journeyman a rookie walk into a bar…

The two best games of the NFL weekend happened to take place during the 1:00 window of games which we called “disgusting” multiple times in this Sunday’s podcast.

The Houston Texans and the Minnesota Vikings both trailed by a possession needing a touchdown to take the lead late in the fourth quarter of their respective games.

That was no problem for Texans rookie quarterback C.J Stroud and Vikings newly acquired veteran Joshua Dobbs.

First, Dobbs led a 11-play, 1:42 touchdown drive to show the Falcons in Atlanta. The drive was full of spectacular moments, none better than this “screw it, let me cook”, madden-esque, scramble from Dobbs on fourth down.

After coming in relief on Jaren Hall in the second quarter, Dobbs finished 20/30 throwing the ball for 158 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran the ball 7 times for 66 yards and a touchdown, but lost 3 fumbles.

The former Cardinals quarterback didn’t hold the spotlight for long, as Texan’s rookie C.J Stroud led his own unbelievable game-winning drive just moments later.

The No. 2 overall pick in last year’s draft was giving NFL Redzone host Scott Hanson a half-chubb all afternoon on his way to throwing for a rookie record 470 yards and 5 touchdowns.

No touchdown was bigger than the final one, a 15 yard strike to Tank Dell with 6 seconds remaining in regulation.

The play capped off a 5-play, 40 second long drive to win the game and more importantly get the Texans back to .500 in an open AFC wild card picture.

Survival.

Coming in to the week the guys were oozing over the college football Saturday slate and it did not disappoint. While only one top 10 team went down on Saturday, we were damn-near close to seeing at least three more elite teams fall.

The fun started early and often when the Rutgers Scarlet Knights controlled the ENTIRE first half against No. 1 Ohio State. Unfortunately, the Knights have to settle for field goals all half, and went into the locker room up 9-7.

Greg Shiano’s squad came out of the half strong, but things were derailed when Rutgers quarterback Gavin Wimsatt threw one of the worst passes I’ve seen in my 25 years on earth and the Buckeyes took it back for 6.

Ohio State would go on to seize all the momentum and actually cover the spread in a 19 point victory.

Another upset bid game in Pittsburgh, PA, as the Pitt Panthers actually led the fourth-ranked Florida State Seminoles 7-0 in the second quarter of their ACC showdown. The lead lasted about four minutes before Florida State struck back, and the Seminoles never looked back, winning the game 24-7.

Washington and Alabama also survived high-scoring affairs with conference rivals, and the top 10 for the most part has stayed in tact going into the final three games of the regular season.

No. 9 Oklahoma did lose on the road to rival Oklahoma State, while No. 7 Texas had to go to overtime at home to beat Kansas State, showing the Big 12 is likely going to miss another College Football Playoff a return last year.

Playoffs?

The NBA In-season tournament started this weekend and the most noteworthy takeaway is the true hideous nature of the courts.

In the box score, the Pacers, Bucks, Heat Warriors, Trail Blazers, Nets, and Nuggets came away with wins to start out group play.

The next set of games begin Friday, and if you are still as confused as we are don’t worry, we made a guide with all the details and logistical nonsense.

We here are section 400 are just ready for the actual basketball season to start today on the college front, but we’ll get into that later.
