What to watch for tonight; December 12

I just ate a massive amount of Tuna post workout so bear with my brain fog on this one.

Every single weekday, the guys at Section 400 will take you through the upcoming night’s slate of games, no matter how incredible, or how disgusting, it looks.

Today’s slate is a crime against humanity, with a decent NBA doubleheader, no college basketball worth anyone’s time, and some NHL.

Let’s nosedive into the shallow end.

The best.

  • (NBA) Lakers vs. Mavericks
  • (NBA) Warriors vs. Suns

The best game of the day takes place in future presidential candidate Mark Cuban’s backyard.

The current three-seed in the Western Conference Dallas Mavericks play host to the NBA In-Season Tournament Champion Los Angeles Lakers on TNT tonight.

Los Angeles is in action for the first time since Saturday’s championship, while Luka Doncic and the Mavs are coming off a “too close for comfort” road win in Memphis.

Lebron James and the Lakers have actually been mediocre outside of the In-Season Tournament, playing to an 8-9 record in the regular season. Luckily for them every game (besides the championship for some reason) counts towards the regular season standings.

The Mavericks sit a game and a half ahead and hope to extend that lead tonight.

TNT’s nightcap features a pair of contenders with the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns. Somehow these two teams are a combined .500 through 22 games each.

Still, if there’s one thing I’ve learned during my time watching basketball on this Earth it’s that the NBA regular season matters less than my ACT score. Both these teams will be in the playoff picture come January.

The best of the rest.

(NHL) Maple Leafs vs. Rangers

I apologize for all the hockey buffs for what I am about to write, but you know it’s a bad sports night when a NHL game is coming in above the “rest” category.

These teams sit atop the Eastern Conference right now and should both find their way into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Unfortunately making the playoffs won’t do much a Toronto team that has been pursuing another Stanley Cup for 45 years.

The rest.

(NCAAB/NBA/NHL) Rest of Slate

There is absolutely nothing worthwhile on the rest of the sports slate tonight. Since I pride myself on watching a ton of college basketball, I’ll drop another bet in here but tail with caution today.

I like the Hofstra vs. Duke over 143.5 points due to the simple fact Hofstra is a competent mid-major on the offensive end, while Duke has been searching for answers on that side of the ball.

Kyle Flipowski will have a mismatch all night so he’ll get his, but the Blue Devils constant post-feeding can create opportunities for Hofstra to stay in this game trading twos for threes.

Duke wins this one 85-73.
