What to watch for tonight; December 21

Merry Bowlmas everybody. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I’ll try to let that distract me from the fact today’s sports slate leaves a lot to be desired.

Every single weekday, the guys at Section 400 will take you through the upcoming night’s slate of games, no matter how incredible, or how disgusting, it looks.

Today’s slate is less than meh, although we do get some great college basketball games.

Let’s dive right in.

The best.

New Orleans Saints

Thursday Night Football matchups have been about as consistent as a mid-major basketball player’s 3-point shot this season. The hit-or-miss nature of every weekday NFL game has me hesistant to put this one in the “best” column, but I’m going to do it anyway.

Tonight SHOULD be a good one.

Both the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams come into this game 7-7 and on the brink of a playoff spot. The Rams have done it through an electric offense featuring Cooper Kupp and Kyren Williams.

Rookie senation Puka Nacua’s hair is great, but his playmaking is even better. The fifth round-pick has become a perfect compliment to Kupp during the Rams recent hot streak.

On the other side, the Saints defense is still good, but the offense is stagnanted by the eternal hill of flat tires that Derek Carr is.

The best of the rest.

USATS
  • (NBA) Clippers vs. Thunder
  • (NBA) Jazz vs. Pistons

Before I get into the Clippers taking on the Thunder I’m sure most of you are confused why I have the 10-win Jazz traveling to Detroit to take on the 2-win Pistons in this category.

The 2-win Pistons are favored! Books believe Cade Cunningham and the Island of misfit GMC radiators is going to find the win column for the first time since October. So yeah, I have to watch.

In the actual best NBA game of the day, the 17-8 Thunder (our future bet for this NBA season) take on the suddenly-surging Los Angeles Clippers.

Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and company have won 9-straight games after a tumultuous start to the season. As our guy Matt says repeatedly on our podcasts, the NBA season doesn’t truly start until Christmas.

The rest.

  • Bowlmas Day 1
  • (NCAAB) night slate

We dropped to 17-7 on the season after Nate Oats and Alabama decided to lose by 10-plus points for the first time in a month. I’ve got a strong play for a bounce back today but before I get to that I need to plug Bowlmas.

This is our first major event since starting this thing and we would be eternally grateful if you could go subscribe to the YouTube and follow the series. We’re also on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Music if you’d rather listen to the shows. We love you either way.

Now back to the disgusting college basketball slate tonight. Most of these kids are getting ready for winter break and the teams are scheduling day games because of that. I normally like to bet overs in these spots but I’ll get you a more specific read.

Actually this slate is super ugly and I’m struggling to find any kind of value. I do like the over in the Norfolk State vs. South Dakota State game. The MEAC and Summit League are well known high-pace, high-volume, basketball leagues and I don’t think that changes in this game.

Both squads have a bonafide star averaging over 18 points per game and this thing should end around 77-73. Take the over 141 with confidence.
