What to watch for tonight; February 8

One of the questions I’ve been dying to ask a professional athlete is how awkward it must feel to get traded and meet a full cast of new teammates mid-season.

I guess it depends on the personality type of the athlete, but you can’t tell me a guy like Furkan Korkmaz who speaks English as a second language and has only known one team his whole career is just dying to meet 11 new best friends.

Looking back on that, Furkan may have been a bad example considering he’s been trying to get traded out of Philly for years but hopefully, you get my point.

That point of course being the NBA Trade Deadline has come and gone quicker than Kris Humphries’s time as a Brooklyn Net. Nothing too major took place, although the Sixers acquiring Buddy Hield and the Mavericks trading for PJ Washington could be enough to move the needle.

Our Thunder also traded for 33-year-old Gordon Hayward so that was cool. I wish it was 23-year-old Hayward, but beggars can’t be choosers.

For a full breakdown of the trade deadline including our grades for each trade, head on over to our “Trade Deadline Tracker“.

Anyway here is what you should be watching tonight.

The best.

(NBA) Nuggets vs. Lakers

Lebron James’s Los Angeles Lakers didn’t do anything at the trade deadline. I’m patiently waiting to hear from the King.

Los Angeles won three in a row before the deadline to improve to 27-25 on the season. Apparently Rob Pelinka feels confident enough (or cheap enough) in his team that they can make a run at a second championship this season.

The Lakers of course became In-Season Tournament Champions a few months ago. I don’t blame you for a second if you forgot about that.

Denver on the other side visits with a great record atop the Western Conference. Nikola Jokic has a chance to win another MVP, and the Nuggets could very well follow him to another title.

The best of the rest.

  • (NCAAM) FAU vs. UAB
  • (NCAAM) Arizona vs. Utah

February in the college basketball season is kind of like Thanksgiving when you are a kid.

Something great is on the horizon and the appetizer is nice, but you kind of wish the calendar would just flip over already.

Tonight’s premier college games include two top 20 teams traveling to decent road venues. Both FAU and Arizona are favored by 5.5 points and I don’t see either of them having trouble covering.

I’ll actually go as far as to give you Arizona (-5.5) as my bet of the night. Utah simply is not as good as the experts and analytics say. There is a reason why we’ve kept them out of our “Field of 68”.

The rest.
