What to watch for tonight; November 17

Ladies and gentlemen…. the weekend.

We’ve made it through another week, and now it’s time for this week’s final edition of “What to watch for tonight”

Every single weekday, the guys at Section 400 will take you through the upcoming night’s slate of games, no matter how incredible, or how disgusting, it looks.

Friday brings us some NBA In-Season Tournament Action, a great night of college basketball, and some hockey and college football.

The best.

(NBA) In-Season Tournament action

We’ve come a long way here at Section 400 about our opinion on the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament. I’m not going to sugar-coat how dumbfounded and dismissive we were at first, but the intensity and downright quality of the games has made up change our minds almost completely.

The jerseys and courts are still a dishonor to graphic/fashion designers everywhere, but the quality of ball has been great.

That being said, tonight’s slate leaves a lot to be desired. Most of the games involve teams at the top of their respective groups against rebuilding franchises or just down-right bad ones.

The most interesting match of the night takes place in Utah, where the 4-7, but 2-0 in the tournament, Utah Jazz take on the 5-6 and 0-1 Phoenix Suns. Kevin Durant and Phoenix have struggled to get going this year, and they just got news that they’d be without new acquisition Bradley Beal for at least another 3 weeks (shocker). The Jazz have somehow won both of their games and can all but clinch a spot in the knockout stage with a win.

Imagine the Jazz being 6-11 overall but making it to Vegas.

The best of the rest.

  • (NCAAB) Auburn vs. St. Bonaventure
  • (NCAAB) Villanova vs. Maryland

We have a very nice lineup of college basketball ahead of us on Friday, but the two games that stick out are Auburn (-10) taking on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies in the Legends Classic Finals and Villanova hosting Maryland in the Gavitt Games.

Auburn is coming off a semi-final dismantling of Notre Dame, while St. Bonaventure performed a beautiful second-half comeback to take down Oklahoma State in the semis.

I don’t expect this game to be very close for very long, but I have it in this column because you’ll want to watch my Auburn Tigers in action. Freshman Aden Holloway is the truth, and forward Johni Broome pairs with him to give the Tigers one of the best 1-2 punches in the country. Tigers by 22.

The Gavitt games feature two programs that have both played below expectations to open the season. Villanova lost to Penn earlier in the week, while Maryland already has lost twice.

This one starts about 30 minutes before the Auburn game will end, creating a makeshift double-header that should be entertaining.

The rest.

USATS

(NCAAF) Colorado vs. Washington State

After starting the season 3-0, the Colorado Buffalos need to win tonight in Washington to keep their bowl hopes alive.

The Buffs are 4-point underdogs in this one, but that won’t stop them from putting up a big fight in this PAC 12 showdown.

I’ll be rooting for them.
