What to watch for tonight; November 6

Monday’s aren’t just for football anymore…

Every single day, Section 400 will take you through the upcoming night’s slate of games, no matter how incredible, or how disgusting, it looks.

Today is a special day on the calendar here at Section 400, as myself and fellow contributor, Matt Kolen, are MASSIVE college basketball fans. Today’s slate not only features the normal Monday Night football and some NBA and NHL action but also a full night of college hoops.

With a massive grin on my face, it’s time to dive right in.

The best.

  • (NCAAB) Hall of Fame Series
  • (NCAAB) Rest of slate

Move over football, we have a new king of the “best” category, at least for today.

A full slate of college hoops is headlined by the 2023 Hall of Fame Series in Las Vegas, as four teams fight for their first championship of the season.

The first game between Oregon and Georgia doesn’t pose too much flash, but the night cap is going to be a certified banger when 21-ranked USC (who will be without freshmen Bronny James) takes on Kansas State at 10 PM eastern time on TNT.

USC was picked to finish second in the PAC 12 (RIP) preseason poll this year, while Kansas State was picked to finish sixth in what will be a super fun BIG 12 conference.

Many other top 25 teams are in action today. While the spreads aren’t close in most games and picking an upset on day one would be silly, I’m keeping an eye on James Madison (+16.5) traveling to East Lansing to take on Michigan State.

JMU is an older team that can light up the scoreboard, and Tom Izzo’s Spartans are known to start slow. MSU should prevail, but this game could very well be worthy of your eyeballs.

The best of the rest.

  • (NFL) Chargers vs. Jets
  • (NBA) Lakers vs. Heat

NFL week 9 ends when the Los Angeles Chargers travel across the country to take on the New York Jets in a game we expect to be uglier than the NBA’s In-Season Tournament courts.

Will the Chargers get back to .500 and fool the world into thinking they are a contender again, or will the Jets find a way to win again with Zach Wilson under center. To find out what we think and read our predictions, bets, and analysis on the game, check out our roundtable here.

The Lakers take on the Heat in a rematch of the “bubble finals” on NBA TV at 7:30 eastern. These teams have played only six games apiece yet there are eight players on the injury report ahead of this showdown in Miami, the most important player of note being Heat forward Jimmy Butler.

The rest.

  • (NHL) Bruins vs. Stars
  • (NBA & NHL) Rest of slate.

A pair of first-place and surefire playoff teams face-off on the ice tonight when the 9-1-1 Boston Bruins take on the 7-2-1 Dallas Stars. Unfortunately this game in on ESPN+ which relegates it to the “rest” category. Figure it out hockey.

Three other NHL games are in action tonight, and they all can also be found on ESPN+. On the NBA side of things, we have a pretty full slate with some gross looking matchups, although the Spurs vs. Pacers game has an over/under of 238 points and it’s always worth watching Victor Wembanyama.
