What to watch for tonight; November 7

It’s a monumental time here at Section 400, as this is our 100th all-time post! Thank you to everyone who has followed along with us, and here’s to 100 more.

Every single day, the guys at Section 400 will take you through the upcoming night’s slate of games, no matter how incredible, or how disgusting, it looks.

Today’s slate is unfortunately pretty gross, with a much smaller dose of college basketball action, no NBA games (figure it out Adam), MACtion, and some NHL.

Let’s get right into it.

The best.

(NCAAB) Auburn vs. Baylor

War. Damn. Eagle. Bruce Pearl and my alma matter Auburn Tigers are back in action tonight to take on the Baylor Bears in Sioux Falls, ND for some reason.

Auburn comes into the season unranked despite ranking 15th in KenPom and returning leading scorer Johni Broome, firecracker K.D Johnson, and big man Dylan Cardwell.

Look for transfer guard Denver Jones in this game tonight. The junior led Auburn in scoring in their final scrimmage against Auburn U-Montgomery and averaged 20 points per game for FIU a season ago.

Baylor comes into this contest as one-point underdogs despite being ranked 20th in the AP Poll. The Bears don’t return any of their top three scorers from last year, but still should be a solid group in the BIG 12. Forward Jalen Bridges returns after averaging 10 points and 6 rebounds a season ago. Bridges, along with freshmen Ja’Kobe Walter, should be the leaders of this Bears team.

The best of the rest.

  • (NHL) Devils vs. Avalanche

Rick Pitino and Ed Cooley make their coaching debuts for St. Johns and Providence, respectively, tonight.

Pitino’s Red Storm welcome Stony Brook into Carnsecca Arena, while the Hoyas host newly-turned division one program Le Moyne College in a game the Hoyas (-18.5) could very well win by 45.

Illiniois transfer guard Jayden Epps will lead the Georgetown attack this season after he reportedly dropped 46 points on Wake Forest in a secret scrimmage back in October. I really think the Hoyas have a chance to be frisky team in the Big East, and they’ll prove that tonight.

Other games of note include Michigan hosting reigning Big South champion UNC Asheville, and Northern Iowa traveling to North Texas for an early mid-major showdown.

If college hoops aren’t your vice, (there is about a 2% chance you’ve made it this far if not) we do have a great hockey game tonight in Colorado.

The 7-3-0 Avalanche take on the 7-3-1 New Jersey Devils on TNT at 10 eastern. I’m personally thrilled this game is actually on TV, and I’ll have it on the computer screen while Auburn takes up 98% of my attention.

The rest

CMU Athletics
  • (NCAAF) Central Michigan vs. Western Michigan
  • (NCAAF & NHL) rest of slate

I was very disappointed looking at today’s MACtion schedule and seeing two over/unders set below 45 points. The one game that is possibly worth tuning into takes place on ESPNU at 7, when the 5-4 Central Michigan Chippewas take on the Western Michigan Broncos in a rivalry game.

The Chippewas (which is apparently a name for people living in southern Canada?) have a chance to secure a bowl birth with a win. They are actually 3-point underdogs in this one however.

With an over/under of 58 this game has fun potential on a quite sports night.
