April’s Best MLB Performers by Position

It’s the end of April and the MLB season has started off (Gray)t. It’s about to be May and the weather is going to get warmer, and the balls are going to start to be hit farther. Saying that, there have been a lot of hitting performances that have already been incredible. Here is my best AL and NL players by position to start the season.

Catcher
USATS

American League: Salvador Perez

SALLLVYY has looked incredible this season. After a down year last year, Perez is off to a scorching start hitting for a .355 average with 7 home runs, giving him a 1.6 war.

National League: Will Smith

The Fresh Smith of LA has continued to be a beast. Smith signed a 10-year extension in March and has started year one with a bang. He should be considered a superstar as he has hit .362 with 23 RBIs already to start the season.

First Base
USATS

American League: Josh Naylor

Josh Naylor led the Guardians to a first-place, dominant April. He is scorching the ball hitting .282 with 7 home runs and 24 RBIs. Naylor is the most underrated star in the league. He is him.

National League: Pete Alonso

The Polar Bear is doing his thing early on for the Mets. The Polar Bear has hit 8 home runs already, but his team is feeble and he only has 15 RBIs. The pending free agent will look for a monster contract this offseason.

American League: Jose Altuve

If you thought Alonso’s HR:RBI ratio was funny, Altuve’s is a belly laugh. He is hitting .345 with 7 home runs and a comical 9 RBIs. I don’t even know how this is possible but it shows how bad the 2024 Astros have been. You can’t blame Altuve for Houston’s struggles.

National League: Ketel Marte

Ketel Marte is up there with Naylor as the league’s most underrated player. The dude is a stud. He’s been insane to start 2024, hitting .306 with 5 homers.

Third Base
Philadelphia Inquirer

American League: Jose Ramirez

Jose Ramirez is a stud man. Year in and year out, he hits the baseball as well as anyone in the league, and this year is no different.

National League: Alec Bohm

Now onto my first Phillie! Alec Bohm has been ELECTRIC this season!!! He is breaking out and ended April on a 14-game hitting streak. If we see this Bohm all season the Phillies may actually dance on their own!

American League: Gunnar Henderson

Bobby Witt has been so, so, good for the Royals this season. It’s crazy that he hasn’t been the best shortstop in the AL. Gunnar is proving to the baseball world that he is a superstar. He’s a true 5-tool player hitting .291 with 10 home runs and 6 stolen bases already!

Mookie man… How did the Red Sox get rid of him? Betts is making the switch to shortstop this year and he hasn’t missed a beat. The future Hall of Famer is hitting .368 with 6 home runs and 8 stolen bases to start the year. Mookie may be the best player in the entire sport!!

American League: Steven Kwan

Steven Kwan man!!! The 3rd Guardian on this list has been amazing to start the year. Hitting .350, scoring 27 runs, and adding power with 3 home runs. Watch out for these Guardians!

National League: Jurickson Profar

What are they feeding Profar this season??! The former top prospect has been nothing but stellar for the San Diego Padres! After a very off year with the Rockies, Profar rejoined the Padres and has been their best hitter! He is hitting .311 with 4 home runs already to start the year. The 31-year-old looks to have seriously figured it out!

American League: Mike Trout

This one hurts. Trout just got put on the injured list and needs surgery on his left knee. Prior to the news, he was tied for the league lead in homers and already had more stolen bases (6) than he had all of last season.

National League: Michael Harris

I don’t like Harris but he’s a good baseball player sadly. He had a solid April, hitting .303 with 3 home runs, great defense, and 5 stolen bases. He’s a stud. What can I say?

American League: Juan Soto

Juan Soto was traded to the Yankees to be a superstar and he has been better than advertised. The 25(!!) year old is hitting .325 with 8 home runs already. He is going to get a $500 plus million dollar contract if he keeps this up!!

National League: Starling Marte

No right fielders in the NL have been (Gray)t but Starling Marte has been more than solid. He is hitting .304 with 4 home runs and has been a much better player for the Mets this season!

Starting Pitcher
USATS

American League: Tarik Skubal

Tarik Skubal was a popular CY Young bet coming into the year. Even though I still think Jon Gray will eventually win it, Skubal has looked amazing so far. The Tigers ace is 4-0 with 41ks and a 1.72 ERA. He is without a doubt a top-10 pitcher in this game.

National League: Ranger Suarez

Ranger Danger!! Ranger has been the best pitcher in the sport so far this season. He is 5-0 with 40ks and a 1.32 ERA. Ranger has been exceptional and I truly believe that he can keep this up and win a Cy Young. He is the best must-watch pitcher out of anyone in the league!

American League: Clay Holmes

Holmes man, I debated him and Mason Miller but Holmes has been better. He has 9 saves and a 0.00 era in the back of the Yankees bullpen! He is a huge piece for the Yankees team!

National League: Robert Suarez

Josh Hader who? Robert Suarez has taken over the closing job in San Diego, and has been lights out! He has 10 saves and a 0.71 ERA to start the year!

Thank you all for reading. Here’s to a Grayt season!!
