The NFL injury bug has flown its way over to Indiana. The Indianapolis Colts announced on Wednesday that they have placed star rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson on Injured Reserve.
Richardson injured his shoulder in the second quarter of Indy’s 22-16 win over the Titans on Sunday. After tests this week revealed unfortunate results, the Colts decided to put their first-round pick on the IR.
Colts’ QB Anthony Richardson is now expected to miss four to eight weeks, depending on his rehab and whether or not he still would need surgery on his right shoulder, per source. By placing him on IR today, the Colts are giving him time so nothing can, or has to be, rushed.

The former Florida Gator has had his fair share on injury issues early on in his career, as Richardson had previously missed one game before this due to a concussion and was forced to leave exit early in another.
Overall, Richardson had thrown for 577 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception over his first four career games. The dual-threat quarterback also rushed for 136 yards and 4 scores.
While the news is certainly sour for Colts fans, they can take solace in the fact longtime NFL veteran Gardner Minshew will take over as the Colts QB1 for at least the next four games.
Minshew is arguably the best quarterback in the league, and has already led the Colts to a road victory as a starter and another win this week in relief of Richardson.
We’ll see if he can keep the Colts in contention in a tight AFC South.
