When I wrote my blog “Dave Dumbitchski should be fired” I got laughed at. The Phillies were the best team in the league! Surely that meant that the General Manager did a good job!
Today is the morning after the Mets defeated the Phillies 3-1 in the NLDS by winning 4-1 in the final game. I am currently beyond upset, but if you have paid attention to the Phillies all season long, I’m not surprised. The reason I wrote that article about Dave Dumbitchski was because it was so apparent that while the team had massive holes, this year was our best opportunity to win the World Series.
The Dodgers didn’t have pitching all postseason. The Braves best players were all hurt. The Mets didn’t have Juan Soto yet. The Brewers had the most mid team a team could be. The Padres saw that, and even though they traded Juan Soto, San Diego still ended up going “all in” this year by adding Dylan Cease, Michael King, Tanner Scott, Jason Adam, Tanner Scott and more. The Phillies, who lost in Game 7 of the 2023 NLCS after a feeble choke job; What did they do?
Well Dave Dumbitchski signed Whit Merrifield. Owner John Middleton said he was willing to spend money to win a championship this season. Dave Dumbitchski then said in the offseason to wait until we make a big move at the trade deadline. Well the Trade Deadline hit and somehow the Phillies got worse. You know who they acquired from my recent article, but let’s see how those aquisitions did.
Austin Hays was pathetic and putrid. He was an automatic out every time he stepped into the batter box, not giving one good at bat. Hays batted 0-4 with 3 strike outs in the postseason. Carlos Estevez, well, he was just terrific! All he will be remembered for is being the guy that let Francisco Lindor hit a grand slam in an elimination game.
Great job Dave!!!
Now obviously the trades we made sucked. No doubt about that, but the worst trades Dombrowski made were the trades he didn’t. The Phillies hit a combined .186/.295/.302 in the NLDS. It’s not like we played aces. We faced the “mid” Mets pitchers, who even my Mets fans friends thought sucked before these playoffs.
The fact that Brandon Marsh, Edmundo Sosa, Austin Hays, JT “FRAUD”muto, Johan Rojas were all consistently in the lineup is a JOKE. Brent Rooker, Randy Aronazena, Luis Robert, heck even Taylor Ward were very much available at the deadline.
DO SOMETHING DAVE! DON’T GET A BENCH PLAYER ON THE ORIOLES AND EXPECT TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP!!! Dave is a joke, get him out of here.
It’s Michkov time in Philadelphia!
