Philadelphia Flyers Season Preview

Philadelphia sports have seen a resurgence in the last few years.

The Sixers process has seemingly finished, making the team legitimate contenders every year, the Phillies have been in the playoffs back-to-back seasons, and the Birds, the Birds are fucking gas.

With the NHL season starting and me being the Philly guy I am, it’s only right I touch on the ONE franchise that is in shambles and won’t be competitive for a few more years, those god-forsaken Flyers.

Who’s gone?

Last year, the Flyers finished as one of the league’s bottom ten teams and it’s pretty clear the team is not anticipating a Stanley Cup parade down Broad Street anytime soon.

With that being said, it’s encouraging to see a new front office with former Flyer legend Danny Briere leading the charge as GM. Finally, there is a commitment to a genuine rebuild.

The Flyers leading point scorer from a season ago, Kevin Hayes, has been dealt to St. Louis. Another key player, left-wing James Van Riemsdyk, left in free agency to the Boston Bruins.

Other key departures include defensemen Ivan Provorov and Tony DeAngelo who led the defensive lines with time on ice. Defensemen Justin Braun announced his retirement after playing fifty one games for the team last year.

Some guys I’m looking to watch this year include left-wing Joel Farabee and defensemen Travis Sanheim. Both players took major steps forward last year and could develop into studs given how much ice time they will see this season.

In between the posts, Carter Hart looks to silence the critics and have a strong year to solidify his status as number one goaltender. Look for these three guys to have strong years amidst the rebuild. These three can be the cornerstones Briere and Co. can build around in the coming years.

Final Standings Prediction.

Flyers Record Prediction: 26-47-9
