Phillies, Aaron Nola, agree to 7-year extension

The Philadelphia Phillies suffered a disappointing, or amazing for some (including myself), end to their season when they failed to make it back to the World Series against the underdog Arizona Diamondbacks.

General Manager David Dombrowski has already made sure he won’t lost this offseason.

The Phillies’ front office made their No. 1 offseason priority a reality on Sunday, signing star pitcher Aaron Nola to a 7-year, $172 million contract according to MLB.com

Nola will spend the rest of his career in the City of Brotherly Love, where he was drafted as the 7th overall pick in the 2014 draft out of LSU.

The former Tiger had one of the worst seasons of his career in 2023, posting a 4.46 era over 193.2 innings. Nola struck out 202.

Even after the subpar season, Nola was still one of the premier pitchers on the market and the Phillies made sure to get their guy.

I don’t hate the move for the Fightins’. Philadelphia’s strength lies in their lineup and losing Nola would not be good for a team with an already light rotation.

With Nola gone, it’s time for my New York Mets to go out and sign Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Go get him Steve.
