Section 400’s Week 11 Monday Night Football Roundtable

Week 11 of the NFL season concludes on Monday night with quite possibly the game of the year so far, as the 8-1 Eagles travel to Kansas City to take on the 7-2 Chiefs in a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl.

These two budding rivals are still the class of their respective conferences, with Jalen Hurts leading an Eagles offense that is fifth in yards per game. On the other side is multi-time MVP Patrick Mahomes and the defending champion Chiefs.

This game already has instant classic status before kickoff.

As will be the case every Monday during the NFL season, the guys from Section 400 are here to give their takes on the game.

Here is what Section 400 writers Brian Hauch, Matt Kolen, and Jack Albanese are thinking heading into the best NFL game of the year to date.

This game is a rematch of last year’s incredible Super Bowl. Is it also a preview of this year’s?

BH: I think so. The Chiefs aren’t without their flaws, but considering they (should) have home-field advantage in the playoffs against the likes of the Ravens and Jaguars I am not too worried about them. The Eagles have a bit of a tougher road, mainly because the 49ers play in the NFC. Philadelphia is still the better team and should be the favorites to win their conference again. I’ll be rooting for the Lions to get it done though!

MK: That is a dumb question. Of course, it is. These are the two best teams in football and there is a wide gap behind them. Mahomes and Hurts are also clearly the best signal-callers in the league.

JA: These are the best teams in the AFC and NFC. It’s a long season but as of now, the Chiefs and Eagles are the favorites to make the Super Bowl once again. I still think my Jaguars can make something happen, but I’ll refrain from getting Matt going on about how Jacksonville is a bunch of frauds again.

Patrick Mahomes is still one of if not the best quarterbacks in football. He’s thrown 8 interceptions this year though, mainly due to the fact Kansas City still doesn’t have a bona fide No. 1 receiver behind tight end Travis Kelce. How concerning is that heading into the postseason?

BH: It’s very concerning. We know how great Mahomes is at extending plays and creating magic. That ability led to amazing on-field chemistry with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill. Hill is now gone, but Kelce and Mahomes are still always on the same page and continue to make big plays. Unfortunately, his receivers are reading a different book. Someone in that room needs to step up and help Mahomes create so the quarterback stops forcing bad balls into tight windows.

MK: The AFC won’t be hard to get through. The Jaguars are terrible and the Ravens can’t win on the road. The Dolphins almost lost to the Raiders this week and the Bills might not even get into the postseason. The Chiefs should get back into the Super Bowl.

JA: It’s a big issue. Mahomes and Andy Reid need someone to step up as a playmaker on offense other than Travis Kelce and Isaiah Pacheco. I still think it will be Rashee Rice, but they need more firepower come playoffs.

Eagles’ wide receiver A.J. Brown has had himself quite the season. Is he the best wide out in football?

BH: Honestly, I think so. Tyreek Hill is obviously electric, as he leads the league in yards and touchdowns, but I think in terms of pure impact on a football field Brown has been better this year. That may be a crazy statement but we are sitting in Section 400 at the end of the day.

MK: It’s about time you gave the Birds some love Brian. I’m going to say yes but I’m biased. The argument can be made for Tyreek Hill or even Keenan Allen, but it’s impossible to not have Brown at least in the top 3.

JA: I still think it’s Devante Adams or Justin Jefferson (when healthy) but Brown has his own unique, elite, skill set that makes him an All-Pro WR1. There is a reason the Titans cleaned house after he was traded.

It’s that time again fellas. Give me your best bet.

BH: I will not be betting on the first drive punt this week. Thank goodness we finally get a good game. The Mahomes-Kelce connection is going to be on full display tonight in a massive game. I’ll take Kelce to have 80+ receiving yards.

MK: We just talked about him, A.J. Brown is going to cruise over 6.5 receptions.

JA: I’ll give you two because this game is that good. Jalen Hurts over 35.5 rushing yards and
Travis Kelce to score a touchdown.

We’re so due to guess a final score. What you got tonight boys?

BH: Chiefs win a close one at home, 28-25.

MK: Go Birds! 34-27, Eagles win it.

JA: Chiefs by a Butker field goal, 31-28.
