The Flyers Can Sell and Make a Huge Run

With the NHL trade deadline 2 weeks away the Philadelphia Flyers are in a very interesting spot. The team is outperforming in a rebuilding year as they sit 7 points up in the playoff race with 25 games remaining.

General Manager Danny Briere has stated that he will listen to all offers, while coach John Tortorella has already spoken with players who could be traded.

Here is what I would do if I was in control.

KNOW your VALUE!!!

The Flyers have all the leverage in the world. Part of the negotiation process has to be leveraging the fact that Philadelphia gets worse in any given trade. Danny Briere should be saying players like Scott Laughton, Sean Walker, Nick Seeler, and Rasmus Ristolainen shouldn’t be traded for less than a first-round pick. Anything less isn’t worth it.

Now, let’s say that the Flyers are able to trade their tradable players (we can also add Cam Atkinson and Marc Staal, although they wouldn’t command a first-round pick). Here is how they can replace them.

To start off, the Flyers do a 11-7 right now rather than a 12-6 offense-to-defense ratio. Philadelphia should go back to a 12-6 and promote the following players from the AHL in order to build the team for a run; Wade Allison, Bobby Brink, Emil Andrae, Louis Belpedio, and Ronnie Attard.

All six have very solid potential and have been with the Flyers before. This also doesn’t take into account the inevitable new faces acquired via trade.

The Flyers truly are like their mascot. Philly is a Gritty team. Of course, the future is massively important. I am all for trading players of value, just know their worth and hold the leverage.

If you can’t get what you want, hold firm and let’s make a run. If we can get what we want, I am still very confident in this team!
