What happened last night; December 15

How has Brandon Staley not been fired yet?

*update as of 12:12 EST Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco have been fired.

The dude came in to be a defensive coach for the Los Angeles Chargers and all he has done during his time there is manage to have one of the worst defenses in football. He just coached a team that allowed Aiden O’Connell and the Las Vegas Raiders to hang a franchise-record 63 points on his head.

That happened in a primetime game. The only explanation for him still being employed is Chargers general manager Tom Telesco doesn’t pay for Amazon Prime and was unable to watch the complete “buffoonery” that took place last night.

Well anyway here is everything that happened Thursday night in sports.

Out of all the bad things that happened in the Chargers loss last night, the worst may have been the inability of Brandon Staley to realize his team just didn’t care after a first half they lost 49-0.

You’d think the Chargers head coach would at the very least sit his starters and get some young guys that would be eager to see the field some playing time.

Instead, Staley stuck with starting quarterback Easton Stick and every other underperforming starter on both sides of the ball. At the end of the day it stinks for Staley getting the short-end of the stick in his quarterback room.

I mean, what do you want him to do? It’s not like he has a former Heisman Trophy finalist that happened to play with a top-draft pick on your roster waiting in the wings.

I’ll stop talking about this game before my head explodes. I’ll leave you with this stat though. This Raiders win was their most lopsided victory since they beat the Broncos in 2010. Denver’s head coach in that game? Josh McDaniels.

Building the bomb.

The Dodgers are doing it. I warned everyone on this week’s podcast that Shohei Ohtani deferring his contract would lead to Los Angeles creating a super team.

Well, Los Angeles traded for Tampa Bay Rays ace Tyler Glasnow on Thursday. They then signed him to a 5-year contract extension hours later, all but securing him and Ohtani as a lethal 1-2 punch at some point down the road.

The Dodgers are now a Yamamoto signing away from creating easily the best rotation in baseball which will only be upgraded once Ohtani heals and gets back on the mound.

Oh, and they still have MVPs Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman swinging the lumber on the other side.

Chest pains.
