What happened last night; December 7

Well, the Yankees may have created the best outfield in Major League Baseball.

Brian Cashman and the Bronx Bombers front office took over headlines on a slow night in sports, acquiring superstar outfielder Juan Soto from the Padres for a Michael King and a bag of peanuts.

Every single weekday, the guys from Section 400 will be providing a rundown of everything that happened in sports the night before.

Let’s get into it.

Like I said above, the New York Yankees made the biggest move of the offseason so far when they traded for Juan Soto last night.

The Move gives New York one of the best outfields we’ve seen this decade with Soto, the recently aquired Alex Verdugo, and Aaron Judge.

The 25-year-old Soto has seen his average slip in recent years, but an elite OBP and OPS+ paired with his left-handed swing in a little-league ballpark should make the Yankees lineup nuclear.

While I am a little biased as a whiny little-brother Mets fan, this move really hurts my heart. We’ve already seen the Braves make a trade for former friend Jared Kelenic, the Phillies re-sign Aaron Nola and let Craig Kimbrel walk (arguably the best move they’ve made), and now the Yankees upgrade significantly.

The Mets, well the Mets have signed Luis Severino and Joey Wendle.

I understand it’s still early in the offseason and things should heat up with the Winter Meetings starting this week, but the team in Queens is currently set to trot out Tylor Megill and one of David Peterson/ Joey Luchessi every fifth day.

Did we not learn anything from last year?

Hold my beer Terrance.

Yesterday I wrote about how Illinois guard Terrance Shannon Jr. may be the best player in major college basketball this year.

Marquette guard Tyler Kolek tried his hardest to change my mind last night. The senior led his team to a resounding win over No. 8 Texas on Wednesday, dropping 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in a 21-point victory.

The reigning Big East Player of the Year is a front-runner to win the award again. More importantly, his Golden Eagles look primed to shake-off the stink of a first-weekend NCAA Tournament exit last year with a run this year.

I’m still here.

The NBA world has been taking over by the surprisingly successful In-Season Tournament in recent weeks, so it may be easy to forget the other 20 teams across the Association still exist.

Despite not making the knockout stages of the tournament, the Dallas Mavericks are 12-8 on the young season and have seemed to overcome whatever struggles they faced last season.

Superstar guard Luka Doncic is a main reason why. Luka delivered some Magic on Wednesday night, securing a FIRST HALF triple double before finishing with 40/11/10 in 32 minutes of play in the Mavericks 50-point win over the Utah Jazz.

Tyrese Haliburton and Lebron James are running the headlines right now because of their In-Season Tournament play, but Luka made sure to make the world remember he still exists last night.
