Thanksgiving is one week away. Where does the time go?
Every single weekday, the guys from Section 400 will be providing a rundown of everything that happened in the “great big world” of sports the night before.
Let’s right in.
What even WRC+

Padres pitcher Blake Snell and Yankees ace Gerrit Cole took home the most coveted pitching trophy in sports last night.
This is the second time Snell has won a Cy Young award, the first being in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays. Despite not knowing what advanced analytics are, the lefty had arguably the best season of his career, striking out 234 batters on his way to a league-leading 2.25 era.

Unfortunately the individual success did not translate to wins this season for Snell and the Padres, as San Diego missed the playoffs with a 82-80 record.
On the American League side, New York Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole won this third Cy Young. Cole has now won the award every other year since 2019, creating his own little version of the Giant’s dynasty of the 2010’s.
Cole’s stats this year were outstanding. He finished with 15 wins, a 2.63 era, and 22 strikeouts in a brutally tough American League. The best part about the 33-year-old’s season may have come last night however, when his parent’s reacted to the news. Just look at this fist bump from dad.

Dunkin’ in Philly

The Boston Celtics continue to own the Philadelphia 76ers.
Boston has now won five of it’s last seven games against Joel Embiid and the Sixers. The two games Philadelphia won were both by single possessions.
Jayson Tatum and Derrick White led the way in this one, combining for 56 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists on their way to a 117-107 win at the Wells Fargo Center.
The 76ers top offensive focal points, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, combined for just 36 points, although they did shoot 50% from the field.
The Celtics are now 9-2 and have sole possession of the Eastern Conference, although we have a lot of basketball left to play.
The Sixers fall to 8-3 but apparently have bigger things to worry about.
Forward Kelly Oubre allegedly did not get hit by a car according to Philadelphia police in a strange turn of events. Philadelphia thought they freed themselves of drama after getting rid of James Harden, but apparently that is not the case.

Lebron turns back the clock, not enough to get by Kings

Lebron James and the Lakers have been more inconsistent this season than the recent quality of Marvel projects.
Los Angeles dropped another home game on Friday, losing to the Sacramento Kings 125-100 despite Lebron James putting up a 28/10/11 triple-double.
Kings center Domantas Sabonis was the best player on the floor in this one, accumulating 29 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 assists on an efficient 13/19 from the field.
Both of these teams should find their way into the postseason, but the Lakers have some work to do if they hope to get Lebron his fifth Larry O’Brien trophy.
