The week 6 college football slate started off with a bang but has calmed down majorly since the early hours of the day.
With most of week 6 in the rearview mirror, here is what we learned about each AP-ranked team this week.
- UGA- The Georgia Bulldogs are going to be just fine. There’s something about Jordan-Hare stadium that makes the Georgia turn into poodles rather than Bulldogs, so I’m chalking up last week’s close call to Auburn magic. The Dawgs blew the roof off 25th-ranked Kentucky this week and won’t be tested again until they host Ole Miss on November 11.
- Michigan- Michigan had a hard time this week at Minnesota. They were able to win the game, but they may not be the dominant force that had a 28.4-point average margin of victory through the first five weeks.
- Texas- The horns are all the way down. Texas was about as bi-polar as the 2022 Kanye West in the Red River Rivalry. Unfortunately for them, the bad Texas showed up in the game’s final minutes.
- Ohio State- Who was the moron that said Maryland would go into Columbus and upset the Buckeyes? Oh me? Ohio State will crack the top 3 on Monday.
- Florida State- The ACC is hot garbage, and Florida State is taking advantage. They look like they’ll be able to win out before the postseason, and they’ll have to in order to make the playoff.
- Penn State-Bye
- Washington-Bye
- Oregon-Bye
- USC- West Coast start times are the worst thing about sports.
- Notre Dame- Notre Dame lost on the road in Louisville. This could be a case of Louisville being better than I thought, but the performance still knocks Notre Dame out of any chance of going to the playoff this year.
- Alabama- The Crimson Tide don’t have a very good quarterback. Jalen Milroe can run and throw a deep ball, but constantly overthrowing receivers on short-intermediate routes is not a recipe for success.
- Oklahoma- The Sooners were the winners of the day on Saturday. Dillon Gabriel outplayed Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers on the biggest stage of the day, and the Sooners defense showed toughness and tackling ability. Could this team be different?
- Washington State- The PAC-12 is going to eat itself alive. Whoever wins the conference should be plenty battle tested for the CFP. Unfortunately for Washington State, that will not be them.
- UNC- Drake Maye is that dude. An ACC championship featuring this Tar Heels team and the 5th-ranked FSU Seminoles would be special.
- Oregon State- See USC
- Ole Miss- Ole Miss is locked in a close game with Arkansas at the time of this writing. This article may have to come out later in future weeks.
- Miami- I never really bought “The U” as a ranked team in the first place, and I’ll be proven right after they dip out of the top 25 next week. The only decent win they have is against a Texas A&M team 4-2 Texas A&M team and they should not be ranked after losing to a bad Georgia Tech team.
- Utah- Bye
- Duke- Bye
- Kentucky- Kentucky may be a good football team, but it’s hard to judge them after getting blown out in Athens, GA.
- Missouri- Mizzou is a little bit like USC with a slightly worse offense and a much worse defense. The Tigers play in some fun games, but they aren’t a serious football team.
- Tennessee- Bye
- LSU- LSU came out on top in the battle of the Tigers in Missouri. Brian Kelley’s squad is not good enough to compete for an SEC title, but they are talented.
- Fresno State- The clock struck midnight on Fresno State’s cinderella run through the Mountain West in week 6. They’ll make a nice bowl game and have a chance to upset a Power 5 school.
- Louisville- The Cardinals are a good football team.
