Brian’s Week 6 CFP Rankings

The College Football AP Poll stinks. Nearly half of the voters are lazy and don’t watch any games on Saturday. The CFP rankings take way too long and the whole thing gets dragged out in an hour long television slop fest each week.

I’m sick of the rankings systems college football uses. I’m sick of the nonsense narratives surrounding the polls and teams that have no business sniffing the top ten and vice-versa.

I’m tired of not writing enough myself. Let’s start a weekly series. The most objective, clear, and ethical college football top 12 rankings the United States of America has to offer. We’ll start with the top 12 and finish with my ‘First Four Out’ and ‘First Two Group of 6 Out’.

1. Georgia

The Bulldogs received 66 of the 70 first place votes in this week’s AP Poll. That is why we are here. How someone can look at what Gunnar Stockton and Georgia just did in Tuscaloosa as the second ranked team in the country and pencil them in as the No. 1 team in the nation is beyond me.

2. Miami

Miami is outscoring opponents 248-52 through five weeks this season. If the Hurricanes somehow don’t win the ACC in 2026 all levels of the program should be on the chopping block, from floors one to seven.

3. Notre Dame

Notre Dame can essentially clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff with a win over BYU in Provo, UT this weekend. The Irish may not be as talented as last year’s iteration that barely missed the Playoff, but CJ Carr is a year older and Marcus Freeman still runs a great program.

The son’s of Plaxico Burress and Jerome Bettis, Elijah and Jerome Jr. respectively, both caught passes in last week’s win over Stanford. I hope you feel as old as I do.

4. Indiana

Last year’s national champion will look to hang onto the projected BIG 10 automatic bid with a win over Ohio State this weekend.

5. Alabama

Alabama was a competent officiating crew away from being ranked number one in my inaugural rankings. I am an Auburn Tiger. Do you know how sad that would have made me?

6. Ohio State

Ohio State has the locked in Heisman Trophy winner catching passes and a golden opportunity in front of it to claim BIG 10 supremacy with a road win over Indiana on Saturday. Good thing Ryan Day always answers the bell in big games.

7. Ole Miss

At one point in time not too long ago Ole Miss had one of the better resume’s in the sport with wins over LSU and Louisville, along with a quality loss in the Swamp against Florida. Now? LSU is barely ranked after losing to Kentucky, Louisville sits at ninth in the ACC, and Florida has lost two in a row.

8. UCLA

Stop me if you’ve heard this before. A former James Madison head coach took a job at a struggling Power 4 program and has that program undefeated and ranked for the first time in forever. Bob Chesney has quarterback Iamaleava caring more about points on the scoreboard than dollars in his NIL budget, and the entire Bruins roster seems ready to make a run at the College Football Playoff.

9. Texas

Is Arch Manning bad? It may be a fair question to ask. Texas has a great defense that can keep it in games but the offense is average at best behind a quarterback that ranks in the middle of the pack among FBS signal-callers.

10. BYU

The Cougars are probably only in these rankings for one week. I don’t see a path for them to beat Notre Dame.

11. Texas Tech

Texas Tech is not nearly as good as it was last season, but the BIG 12 stinks. Oil, and oil money, tends to find it’s way to the top.

12. Boise State

Maddux Madsen is somehow still quarterbacking the Broncos. This offense may be more efficient than the one that saw Ashton Jeanty rush for over 2,000 yards.

F4 Out: Kentucky can replace BYU if the Cougars predictably fall at home this weekend.
