After losing 3 consecutive games, 49ers general manager John Lynch has put all of his chips, and his nuts, on the table.
The San Francisco 49ers have traded a third-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft for former No. 2 overall pick defensive end Chase Young.
The often-injured Young’s time in Washington comes to an end after 3 1/2 underwhelming seasons in which the first-round pick accumulated 14 sacks and 90 total tackles.
Although he underperformed in Washington, the 49ers clearly see the talent is still there.
The move instantly gives the 49ers the premiere defensive end tandem in football, as Young pairs up with All-Pro Nick Bosa to bookend San Francisco’s new-look defensive line.
If you were to ask me, I think this move puts the 49ers back into the conversation as the best team in football after their losing streak. John Lynch needed to make a move to rejuvenate a defense that has been BAD the last couple of weeks, and this does just that.
As for Washington, it seems to be time to tear it all down, team name and all, and start over.
